Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani directed to honor weightlifter Ali Ammar, after he set two world records at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

A statement from the Prime Minister`s Media Office stated that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received today, Monday, the head of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Aqeel Muftan, and international weightlifter Ali Ammar, who recently participated in the Paris Olympics."

He added that "the Prime Minister directed to honor weightlifter Ali Ammar, take care of him, sponsor him, and provide training camps for his upcoming entitlements."

He continued that "Al-Sudani stressed the government`s continued provision of full support and assistance to sports in all its forms, as it represents today a means that reflects the country`s external image, in addition to being an important entitlement at the level of government commitment towards Iraqi athletes," explaining that "the Olympic champion project that was established during the current government is an ambitious project to create Olympic champions who compete in the Olympic Games, achieve victory, and ascend advanced podiums."
